My Activity Tracking

My target 277 kms

277km for 277 lives ♡

Did you know that 1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year and 277 people die from suicide every month in Australia?

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate and can be debilitating with a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them. I speak from experience and only months ago became so ill that I considered ending my life, not because I wanted to die or leave those people around me, but because my brain was finding a solution to the internal pain I was experiencing. Mental illness, depression, and suicidal ideation is a concept that often cannot be comprehended until you experience it. It isolating, confusing, and downright scary. It is an illness which requires years of treatment, takes medication, therapy and an immense amount of support and patience from those around you. It is an illness that is invisible to most who either don’t recognize the signs or don’t know what to say, so they say nothing at all. It is an illness that you internally fight every minute of every day and it can be mentally, emotionally and physically exhausting. It is a silent illnesses, a silent killer.

This October, I am sharing my story not for attention, but to raise awareness that mental illness can affect anyone, and everyone deserves the help I have been fortunate enough to access.

I’ll be walking 277km to raise money for life-changing research into treatment and prevention of mental illness, as well as vital support services. It would mean so much to me if you'd support my walk this October.

My Updates

It's ok to take no steps

This walk is for mental health and I am passionate about it because I am navigating my own mental health challenges. This week I have been stuck on the step of I can't do it and that's ok because the road to health is not linear. I have some amazing supporters including my husband who has seen my struggle and vowed to walk some km with me. This has been a major encouragement and has helped me to take the steps to I want to do it, and I feel with the support I will bound up those stairs all the way to the top!

Slow but steady!

It's been a tough week but I've got some km's started!
