First day started

Alex and I did 3km this morning on the beach. It was a lovely walk and we talked about Dean and life the whole way. We hope you can all get out in the sunshine and enjoy this first day. We miss you Deano. xx

6 weeks ago our world changed

It has been 6 wks today since I lost my husband, our family lost their father and Pop and the world lost a special, silent man. I am still thinking that he will be home soon, but this will never be! This is hard and our hope is that we can prevent this from happening to any other families. RIP Dean. I love you still. xx

Our reason for walking

Just over 5 weeks ago my husband died by suicide. He had been struggling with the “Black Dog” for the last 18 months. He had always been the strong, silent type with no history of mental illness. Our family is grieving and trying to come to terms with our new normal. We want to raise awareness about how prevalent this issue is and help prevent other families from going through what we are.

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

In fact, every day in Australia, 9 people will die by suicide.

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them. 

This October, our team will be taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

We’re walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute, so that they can put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.
