Paul Rudd takes part in One Foot Forward every year:

"I went through a bad patch with my mental health when I hurt my back and I needed a lot of time off to recover. I had limited mobility, so I started to lose contact with the outside world. Then I lost interest in doing anything at all. My mind just clouded all positive thoughts.

It took me two years to rebuild myself. So when I heard about One Foot Forward I decided to take part. I wanted to connect with other people who had been through something similar.

“The community is a big, supportive family.”

To anyone thinking about taking part in One Foot Forward, I say ‘Do it!’. You get to enjoy the fresh air and get your blood moving. It’s also a fun community thing. Above all, it helps raise funds and awareness that help is out there if you need support for your mental health.”

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. I too have been on this journey and it helps so much to know that people care when you feel like no-one does. This is also an opportunity for me to take further action to help myself - physically and mentally. The journey is not an easy one but together we can get through. A photo from my fitter/healthier days to remind me of what is possible.

Starting today, I'll be walking in the month of October to raise money for Mental Health Awareness. The Black Dog Institute do amazing work supporting those living with mental health struggles, those who have lost loved ones to mental health and by raising awareness. Almost 14 years ago, I went to a seminar to better understand how mental health effects people and how to manage your own mental health after the loss of a friend. I've struggled with anxiety over the last little while and I know how important it is to understand your mind and get the support you need. If anyone can spare a buck to support this cause, it would be much appreciated. My goal is 40kms but I will most likely walk more than this as I am making a solid effort to take time for my own mental health and walk each day. Every little bit counts. $10 per kilometre.
