When navigating health care don’t give up just keep pushing forward! Keep your faith, keep fighting and keep searching for someone who hears you! My oldest of five sons, a paramedic was prescribed meds and diagnosed after a breakdown with ptsd, adhd and depression five years ago. Since then his episodes have escalated so we’ve fought to find answers, to rediagnose, to check medications which I believe have added to his symptoms. After a recent episode he was hospitalized on the day our walk started and now been diagnosed with bipolar. His being weaned off the meds that were wrong for him so we are hoping for a better outcome . Keep going, keep speaking up, know everyone is different. Find the help that feels right for you because you matter and you deserve it! My walk this year has been a mixture of exhaustion yet I keep pushing through with faith as my fuel. Mental Health can be complex and research is needed to find a more easily available support system! Together anything is possible! 💙💪🏼🙏

I’m doing this knowing the struggle and impact of mental illness. I’m doing this to raise awareness so those with mental health can access help easier. Mental illness is debilitating, it does not discriminate and the more that can be done to bring this out in the open then hopefully the ripple effect will have a positive impact!  Each year I take part in One Foot Forward to raise funds, to bring awareness, but also to help me feel I’m doing something that matters. I’m not fit, I have fibromyalgia that can cause lack of exercise,  but the positive impact it can have on myself, my son, his girls, and my whole family through the challenges of mental health gives me the fuel to achieve it.   I’m doing this for my son yes, but also for my whole clan and for recognition to the brothers who stand up to mental health together.

My biggest walk yet!

Today I did my biggest challenge and decided to try to walk all the way to hospital to visit my son! I’m not very fit, I have fibromyalgia, and whilst for some it’s easy for me 9ks two hours seems ridiculous! Well I did it! All the way and proved that with live anything is possible! I’m very proud as I am of my son pushing through each episode like a warrior! ❤️💙

Family Tree Survives The Storm

As a spiritual wellbeing teacher I will always continue to search for the right tools to use when needed.    I know, no matter the storm if we stay strong & connected then together we can get through it. I know each branch of my family tree plays a role, showing together we are stronger than this illness. Whether it’s support, healing or just holding space, Mama will never stop fighting for answers. I will always have your backs just as you’ve had mine many a time. Love you, Love you all, together we’ve got this! xxxxxx 

Mental Health

With lived experience through crisis mental health support systems, I’ve learnt just how much is needed to improve it. I’m forever grateful for my family, some services, ambulance Victoria and paramedics themselves, but I would like to see care systems put more thorough long term care into place so in the long run it’s less stress on the system, more individualized care, more holistic approaches to rebuild or more strict guidelines and professionalism in correct diagnosis & medications. Research is so vital to continue with these steps. They are the foundations. To those who are navigating a system that may seem difficult, I say keep going because you matter, keep your faith and trust until you find the correct help for you. Whilst It’s a challenge for weeks, months, years, know awareness is key to bringing more healing to a world that needs understanding, needs to become softer, accepting and connected. Dig deep all, for mental health is something you’re going through, it’s not all of who you are! .
