Support Our Walk for Mental Health Research
This October, the Upper South Creek AWRC Team is taking action to support mental health research in Australia. By joining the Black Dog Institute's One Foot Forward challenge, we are moving towards a future where access to affordable and effective mental health care is a reality for everyone.
Each year, 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness, yet 50% don't seek help. Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.
Each person on our team has chosen to walk/run/pedal/move 40km, 60km, 100km or 150km throughout the month to raise funds that go directly towards initiatives that make a real difference, including:
- Collaborating with Primary Health Networks to enhance suicide prevention outcomes.
- Advancing research and clinical trials for treatment-resistant depression to improve access to effective care.
- Partnering with First Nations leaders to co-design culturally safe mental health and suicide prevention programs.
- Developing and testing new, accessible mental health treatments tailored to individual needs.
- Supporting first responders with free, confidential, trauma-informed mental health services.
- Promoting better mental health in workplaces, where many spend a third of their adult lives.
- Creating mentally healthy schools, with a focus on early intervention as 75% of mental health issues emerge before the age of 25.
- Training and supporting health professionals to manage burnout and maintain their own mental health.
It would mean so much to us if you donated to support our journey.
Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.
