Support My Walk for Mental Health Research
Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?
Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.
This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.
I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.
It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.
Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.
My Updates
Updating for yesterday
6km done, too easy!
I ran 6km today and found it quite easy. I’m still interstate- in a cooler climate than home. I find this cooler weather makes running feel much smoother. I will definitely complete my target of running 100km by end of October. Share
Running in a different location, over 1700km from home
Longest distance today!
4km run done
Best run ever
Just got home from a quick 3km run, and I loved it. Felt great. It’s almost sunset, and I don’t want to run alone in the dark- otherwise I would have kept running. Share
Longest run so far
Ran my longest run so far this challenge today. Not as difficult as the other day, except I needed to take longer walking breaks to recover my breath before continuing with running. Enjoying the journey so far! Share
4 october. fourth day of challenge…
Even though it’s day four of this challenge, I have not been running every day. I plan to reach my goal of running 100km in total by 31 October. I ran five kilometres today. I just got home, and oh my goodness it was quite gruelling! I run using the (Jeff) Galloway Method. This is basically running for one minute and walking for one minute and repeating. I’m so proud of myself for running today! I ran the Gold Coast Half Marathon in early July and then I did not run again until I started this challenge. I am planning to include running in my regular exercise routine in future. Share
First day of running for this challenge
Ran 3km today, and felt great. Found it easier than I expected. Looking forward to running longer distances throughout this month.😀 ShareMy impact over 3 years

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. I have bipolar disorder. I have been living with this disorder since I was fifteen, and am now 50. Although I’ve experienced some truly traumatic experiences, I wouldn’t change anything. It’s created the fabric of my life and looking back I’m just so proud of how far I’ve come. I love running to fundraise for this awesome challenge. A good life is possible with having bipolar disorder or a chronic mental illness. I’m living proof.
