Walking through a tough year

This year has been tough, really tough. Some days have felt heavy, and the everyday challenges of life have piled up in ways I didn’t see coming. There have been moments of exhaustion, doubt, and heartache… but also small sparks of strength that kept me moving forward. That’s what this walk means to me, not just steps on a tracker, but a reminder that even on the hardest days, we can still put one foot in front of the other. We can still show up for ourselves, for each other, and for those who are struggling silently. To anyone who’s finding life heavy right now, I see you. You’re not alone in this. Every small step, every quiet effort, every breath you take to keep going matters more than you know. For every hard day, every unseen battle, and every person still finding the strength to take the next step, this walk is for you. #OneFootForward #YouAreNotAlone #MentalHealthMatters #KeepGoing

Day 15

It’s been a few days since my last update — life got busy, and the days slipped by. But that’s okay. This journey isn’t about being perfect; it’s about showing up when we can and giving ourselves grace when we can’t. The important thing is that I’m still here, still walking, and still standing in solidarity with all Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. Every step, whether big or small, still matters. These past few days have reminded me that mental health doesn’t take a break and neither does compassion. So here’s to getting back out there, reconnecting with my purpose, and continuing to walk for hope, awareness, and support. To anyone else who’s finding it hard to stay on track, please remember, you are not alone. One step forward is still progress. #OneFootForward #MentalHealthAwareness #YouAreNotAlone #KeepGoing

Day 10

Back on track today. After taking a little pause yesterday, I reminded myself why I started. This journey isn’t about being perfect — it’s about showing up, again and again, even when life gets in the way. Today’s walk was for everyone finding the courage to begin again — whether that’s getting out of bed, reaching out for help, or simply taking that next step forward. Every restart is still progress. Ten days in, and I’m feeling proud, grounded, and grateful for the support and purpose behind every kilometre. Here’s to the rest of the month — walking in solidarity for all Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone.

Day 9

No walk today — just everyday life taking over. 🕰️ And that’s okay. Some days are full, messy, or simply exhausting. Life doesn’t always go to plan, and that’s part of the journey too. This challenge isn’t about being perfect — it’s about being real, showing up when we can, and giving ourselves grace when we can’t. Even without the steps, the purpose remains the same. Every pause, every breath, every moment of awareness still counts toward looking after our mental health. Tomorrow is a new day, and I’ll keep putting one foot forward — at my own pace, in my own time.

Day 8

Okay, I’ll admit it — this post is running a little behind! Life got busy, but the steps still happened. Sometimes that’s exactly what this challenge is about — doing your best, even when things don’t go perfectly to plan. Yesterday’s walk gave me time to slow down and breathe. It reminded me that progress doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to keep moving forward. Some days are smooth, others feel like a struggle — but every single step still counts. I’m proud of showing up, even if it’s a day late. Because this journey isn’t about perfection — it’s about purpose. One foot forward, no matter what.

Day six

Six days in, and I’m feeling grateful. 🙏 Grateful for the support, for the encouragement, and for the chance to do something that makes a difference. Every message, donation, and cheer along the way means more than I can say. Today’s walk was about gratitude – for the people who have supported me, and for the strength to keep putting one foot forward, even on the hard days. 💙

Day 4

Four days in, and today’s walk felt like a gentle reminder that consistency matters more than speed. 🌱 Not every step needs to be fast or perfect – what matters is showing up. Each day I’m reminded that we all move at our own pace in life, and that’s okay. I walk for the conversations we still need to have, and for the hope that one day, mental health will be understood just as openly as physical health.

Day three

Three days in and I’m starting to feel the rhythm of this challenge. 🚶‍♀️ Walking today reminded me that small steps really do add up. What feels like “just a walk” is actually something much bigger – it’s awareness, it’s action, and it’s hope. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference – a kind word, a listening ear, or showing up for someone when they need it most. That’s what this walk represents to me: showing up, step by step. I walk this month not just for myself, but for everyone who has faced mental health challenges and kept going. Each step is for you. 💙 Three days down, and I’m proud of how far we’ve already come. Here’s to many more steps ahead – together

Day two

Day two is done! 🌿 Today felt a little different – the excitement of starting yesterday has settled, and now it’s about finding a rhythm. Walking gave me a chance to slow down, breathe, and reflect on why I’m doing this challenge. Every step I take is a reminder that mental health matters. It’s not always easy to keep moving forward, but that’s exactly the point – some days feel heavier than others, and yet we still take that next step. That’s strength. I walk to honour those who are struggling, to remember those we’ve lost, and to help create a future where no one feels alone in their journey. 💙 Two days down, many more to go – and I’m grateful for every bit of support and encouragement along the way. Here’s to keeping one foot forward. 🚶‍♀️✨

Day one

Today marks the beginning of my One Foot Forward journey. Stepping out today, I wasn’t just putting one foot in front of the other – I was walking with purpose, walking for mental health. This challenge isn’t just about the steps, the kilometres, or the kilometres logged. It’s about raising awareness, starting conversations, and supporting those living with mental illness. It’s about showing that no one has to walk alone. The first step can feel like the hardest, but it’s also the most important. Whether it’s one kilometre or ten, each step brings us closer to a future where mental health is spoken about openly, and support is always within reach. I walk this month for everyone fighting a silent battle. Day one is done – and I’m proud to have started. Here’s to the steps ahead, and to walking together, one foot forward.

Support Our Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.

This October, our team is taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

We're walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support our walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.
