Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Day 3 and first big hurdle

I didn't reach my target today - 2km minimum per day. This 2km also had to be a planned walk, and not include incidental steps throughout the day. Days 1 and 2 I smashed it, with 10kms in total - if I included my entire step count it would have been just over 20kms. Both of those numbers blew my mind - I triple checked different apps and devices to make sure there was no duplications. There wasn't!! Unfortunately, undergoing testing yesterday with a specialist vestibular physiotherapist not only triggered an increase in my vertigo episodes, but also flared something in my neck. This resulted in todays walk being a staggering, wall and furniture surfing excursion around the house. I got as close to my target as possible without causing an injury, fall, or antagonise things even more. While Im disappointed I didnt reach my target only 3 days in, Im also proud I managed what I did. On the plus side, the vertigo issues are what lead to the high kms in previous days as its walk or uber, and Im a broke b!tch lol. Tomorrow is another day, and another opportunity to learn to manage everything better and reach my goals.

First official One Foot Forward walk

It may have been slow, requiring some breaks when the vertigo got too severe, but I did it!!!

Trial run - walking with vertigo

Today was my first walk in quite a while. Between my mental health, pain, vertigo, and unfortunately an upstep in violent crime in the area (I loved walking around 9pm - noone around and giving me time to decompress before bed) its been something pushed off until "tomorrow." While I definitely need to tape ankles and knees, for a while at least, I feel so much better for it. And, I didnt fall down!!! Im looking forward to the coming challenge, although there is anxiety that I won't succeed in reaching my goal, and therefore let people down. Oh, the mind is a great thing ...
