Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

In fact, every day in Australia, 8 people will die by suicide.

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.

This October, I’ll be taking part in One Foot Forward to show people living with mental illness that they are not alone.

I'm walking to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute to support crucial mental health research and support services to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

It would mean so much to me if you'd support my walk this October.

Together, we can create a mentally healthier world, for everyone.

My Updates

Ready… Set… Not long to go now!

First time that I’ll be doing the One Foot Forward walk for Mental Health. I know you’ll be by my side every step of my 100km challenge Mick 💜 Miss you so much my beautiful big brother xx

HBD Mick 💜

Today will be and is already a very mentally challenging day for me.

It’s the first time in 15 years that I’ll be working on this day… I’m a nurse and I truly feel like helping others is in my DNA. However, no matter how much I tried to help my brother in all the different ways I possibly could, I still couldn’t save him…

Today I’m taking #onefootforward, I’m taking another step closer to my healing. Please if you see me today, feel free to give me a hug. My goal today is just to get through the day as best I can 💜

R.I.P. Mick 22/08/74 - 07/08/2007 💜

My beautiful big brother 🌹 Miss you so much…

A poem for all those suffering in silence 💜

When you look at me
What is it that you see?
A smiling, happy person
But is that really me?

The silent battles and all of the pain
Are so well hidden but yet they remain
Look beyond those eyes that you see
And please just try, try to help me

I don’t mean to be down all the time
And so I say to you that I am fine
The truth it hurts and so I deny
The question to be asked here, is why?

We grow up thinking, we need to stay strong
But let me tell you, that this is so wrong
It’s so ok for us not to be ok
To own our feelings and to have our say

When you look at me
What do you see?
A smiling happy person
But is that really me?

My story…

August for me has become a month I brace for every year, not knowing how I will feel or react to the anniversaries that come up during this month. It is the month in which my beautiful big brother was born. It is also the month in which he died by suicide…

Michael (Mick) suffered terribly with mental illness. He battled his demons until eventually they got the better of him & he no longer could. He left this world on August 7th, 2007…
It was the day my world shattered and my heart broke into a million pieces.

It’s been 15 years now since Mick left this world… The pain, heartache, anguish & torment of losing him is something I continue to struggle with to this day. It feels as raw as though it happened yesterday. I remember every single detail of that horrendous day and I have no doubt they will remain forever etched into my mind. We were both adopted, him from the Cook Islands and me from India. He was 2 years older than I and our bond was beautiful & strong. We were very close…

I will be walking 100kms this October for my beautiful big brother. I will be walking for myself, my friends, family and all Australians affected by mental health and suicide…

Raising money and awareness for this vitally important cause, knowing I can do something to help not only myself but also others, is something I feel so privileged and proud to be a part of. Thank you for the amazing support and contributions I’ve received so far 💜 Together we can make a difference xx

Dear Sush, This is such an important cause! Well done for doing something to raise funds in support. I have experienced a couple of really bad bouts of depression in my lifetime. It's something that definitely should be talked about as normal. I hope you and the family are doing well. Please reach out if you ever need a friend to talk to. Love Kat
