Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Story with Mental Illness

I've struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember. Throughout high school, I was constantly battling feelings of worry, self-doubt, and overthinking. Things that seemed easy for other people, like speaking up in class, making decisions, or dealing with social situations, often felt overwhelming to me. I spent a lot of time hiding how I felt and trying to push through, even when I was struggling inside.

As I got older and entered the workforce, I hoped things would get easier. Instead, I found myself in an unhealthy work environment that placed a huge amount of stress and pressure on me. Over time, the constant stress, lack of support, and feeling overwhelmed began to significantly affect my mental health. My anxiety became more severe and eventually developed into depression.

The depression impacted every part of my life. I felt emotionally exhausted, hopeless, and disconnected from the person I used to be. Simple daily tasks became difficult, my confidence disappeared, and I lost interest in things I once enjoyed. I often felt trapped and struggled to see a way forward. The stress from work didn't stay at work either. It affected my relationships, my physical health, and my overall wellbeing.

At my lowest point, my mental health deteriorated to the extent that I experienced suicidal thoughts and made attempts to end my life. Looking back, I can see just how overwhelmed and unwell I was during that period. I was carrying years of anxiety while also trying to cope with severe workplace stress and depression, and it became more than I felt capable of handling on my own.

Although those experiences were some of the darkest moments of my life, they also became a turning point. I realised I needed support and could not continue carrying everything by myself. Recovery has not been easy, and there have been setbacks along the way, but I have continued to work on my mental health and rebuild my life.

Living with anxiety and depression has been an ongoing journey, but it has taught me resilience, self-awareness, and compassion. I am proud of how far I have come and the strength it has taken to keep moving forward. While these experiences have shaped who I am, they do not define me. Today, I remain focused on my wellbeing and on building a healthier, more balanced future for myself.
