Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Preparation 🏃🏻‍♀️💚

8 weeks of living in this boot! now preparation begins, almost time to return to some sort of a routine. but.. I did not realise the loss of strength and mobility. 🤦‍♀️ So, heel lifts whilst cleaning 🧹 Swapping between boot and shoes leg down, leg up, leg down, leg up on repeat. I’m committed to this walk - to raise funds and awareness for Mental health. Thank you to everyone that has donated 💚 I will be making my K’s in October 💛

The little things 💛

No great blog, just a reminder that we can stop - reset- start again. October 💛there are many people I will be thinking of on my walk 💛

A first responder dies by suicide every six weeks

Beyond Blue research shows that a first responder takes his or her life every six weeks. Pressures on the job compound over the years and can lead to suicidal thoughts. It can be the extension of other mental disorders, such as PTSD, depression or anxiety (all of which, emergency service workers are at risk of experiencing). The pressures of life as a police officer, paramedic or firefighter include night shifts, poor diet, lack of sleep, time away from family, and constant exposure to trauma.

The why 💚

I’ve chosen to take part this October for many reasons.I’m walking for our first responders, who witness things that stay with them forever. I’m walking to help normalise conversations around mental health and encourage people to speak up and reach out. I’m also walking for my family and friends who are struggling, and for everyone whose life has been touched by mental health challenges.Mental health can be an incredibly difficult space to navigate. There are never enough conversations, support services, or opportunities to remind people that they’re not alone. My hope is that this walk is one small step towards creating positive change and helping someone along their journey. This year, I’ll be completing 30 km throughout October. I’m still recovering from an injury, so I’ll be taking it one step at a time. That’s another reason I wanted to take part, to focus on my own fitness, recovery and wellbeing while supporting a cause that means so much.Together, I hope we can create meaningful change, one step at a time.
