Support my walk for mental health research

This October, I’m taking One Step Forward for mental health. 💚 I don’t talk about this side of my life very often, but I’ve battled depression and anxiety for a long time. And the truth is, it’s something I still struggle with. I’ve had some really dark moments. Moments where everything became too much and I couldn’t see a way through. At my absolute lowest, I ended up being taken to hospital — an experience that broke me in ways I still carry with me. I’ve been through a lot. More than most people probably realise. And I’ve learned that mental health isn’t something you can always just “get over”. Sometimes you wake up feeling okay, and sometimes getting through the day is the biggest achievement you can manage. But I’m still here. Still trying. Still healing. Still putting one foot in front of the other, even on the days when it feels impossible. So this October, I’m taking One Step Forward — for myself, for the people I love, and for anyone who knows what it feels like to fight a battle that nobody else can see. Because sometimes one step forward is enough. 💚 And if you’re struggling too, please know you’re not alone. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay. You just have to keep taking that next step.

My Updates

On the harder days

Some days are harder than others. I’m learning that healing and moving forward doesn’t mean every day is going to feel good. Some days feel heavy. Lonely. Like I’m surrounded by people, yet somehow still completely alone. I’ve always been a bit of a “floater” friend. I know a lot of people. I can walk into places and recognise faces, have conversations, laugh and connect. But I’ve never really felt like I belong to one particular friendship group. I’m often somewhere in between — close enough to know everyone, but never quite part of the group. And sometimes, that hurts more than I let on. You can be surrounded by people and still feel like you’re the only one in the room. I’m also learning how to be happy on my own. Truly happy. Not just pretending I don’t need anyone, but actually being comfortable with my own company and knowing that my worth isn’t measured by how many people choose me. And on the harder days, I thank the universe for my dog. Because somehow, Rocky just knows. He doesn’t care whether I’m having a good day or a shit one. He doesn’t care how many friends I have, whether I was invited somewhere, or whether I feel like I belong. He’s just there. Sometimes a wagging tail, a warm body beside you and a pair of eyes that look at you like you’re their whole world can be enough to get you through another day. So this is another little reminder for me: Being alone and being lonely aren’t the same thing. I’m still learning the difference. Still learning to choose myself. Still learning that I don’t need to belong everywhere to belong somewhere. And even on the harder days… I’m still taking one step forward.

Well done Amy. This is a great cause. Mental health issues are much less visible that physical health issues making them all the more important to recognise and fund xxx
