🌼 Why I’m Walking 150km this October for Mental Health

This October , I've set myself the challenge of walking 150km - about 5km everyday. - as part of Black dog Institute's One Foot Forward Fundraiser. At first glance, it might just look like a lot of steps. But for me, it’s about so much more than just the kilometres.
💛 My Why
Mental health is something that has touched my life in a very personal way.
I’ve faced my own struggles with mental health over the years, learning what it feels like to carry invisible weight while still showing up each day. It’s hard, it’s exhausting, and sometimes it feels isolating.
On top of that, I lost a friend in high school to suicide. That loss has stayed with me, and it’s one of the driving reasons I’m walking this October. No family, no group of friends, should have to go through that heartbreak.
So when I lace up my shoes and head out for another 5km, I walk for myself, I walk for my friend, and I walk for the millions of Australians impacted by mental illness every year.
🚶 Walking for Mental Health
Walking has always been one of the ways I clear my head. There’s something powerful about the rhythm of footsteps, fresh air, and open space that helps lift the fog. It’s not a cure, but it’s a step – literally – towards better mental wellbeing.
That’s why I love this challenge. Every day in October, I’ll be out there moving my body, reflecting, and reminding myself (and others) that even the smallest steps matter.
🌏 Why Support Matters
The funds raised go directly to the Black Dog Institute, helping to fund research, support services, and programs that make a real difference in people’s lives.
- 1 in 5 Australians experience mental illness each year.
- Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15–44.
- Organisations like the Black Dog Institute provide hope, tools, and resources so fewer people are lost, and more lives are supported.
Every donation, big or small, helps.
🙌 How You Can Help
My goal is to raise $1000 by the end of October. If you’re able, please consider supporting my walk.

And if you can’t donate, that’s okay too – even sharing my page or cheering me on means the world.
💬 Final Thoughts
This isn’t just about walking 150km. It’s about starting conversations, reducing stigma, and remembering that nobody has to face mental health challenges alone.
So here’s to every step, every conversation, and every act of kindness this October. Together, we can make a difference. 💛
