Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Day 29 20.7km

I’ve done it !!! The upgraded goal 200km done 😃😃 3 walks every opportunity I had with a very busy and tight 2 days to finish the month. 2.53km while my wife needed to make a purchase at Tuggerah 3.12km on way to dinner 15.08km after dinner Total 20.7km DONE ✅

Day 26

Another 20km on day 26 to add to the 41km over days 24 and 25, that’s 61km for the weekend ….. feel like I’m winding the clock back 😃

Day 20

Day 20 Back walking with a little jogging. After no walking on Day 19 with an event in Inverell then a wonderful 1 year wedding anniversary dinner with my wife Nicole.

Day 18

Up at Inverell to watch a tennis comp and I’ve done it !!! Reached my goal, will now need to increase it to something else 😀 I’ve hit 100km on the 18th of October, still 13 Days to go!!! 👍

Day 17

Just over 11km, tonight I drive over to the River Side and then walked along the Peel River in Tamworth.

Day 15

It’s Day 15. Firstly on Day 13 it was the first tennis night for term 4, so I put the walk metre on for one set, which went to a tie breaker and ended in 10-8 in the tie break game. Needless to say I only walked 97m, which is only a short distance. Day 14 Council Meeting Day 15, with the new t-shirt promoting Mental Health with One Foot Forward. Just over 2 hours of walking and 13.64km. You’ll notice a spike at about the 4km mark, that was a magpie and a slow down stop at about the 7km mark, that was a pit stop at the Shell Servo Amenity. 😄

Day 12

No action on day 11 with an evening school function on and a busy day. But Day 12 brings a walk to get things rolling again, an 8km walk. Not too bad, new shoes wearing them in, so no intermittent jogging tonight.

Day 10 with an interesting sight at the 9km mark

So on day 10, 13.5km. But this time there was an interesting sighting at the 9 km mark, a brown snake just on the edge of the Tamworth golf course right where I was running along the shared cycle way. I made my way about 200m up the road and thought I’ll turn around go back and take a photo by which time it had snake its way across the road where my image was taken. Fortunately there was a car coming the other way to shed some light on it anyway an interesting time on day 10 but a great run/walk for mental health.

Day 8 a great walk

A good brisk walk tonight, no jogging but a fast walk 😃

Longest so far on day 7

10.07km on day 7, my best so far this month in just under 1 1/5 hours, walk / jog. Pretty happy with that, but blisters starting to appear 🤪

Day 6 of my month of walking

Walking for mental health, day 6, missed yesterday

Day 4 Walk

Day 4 walk, little longer then normal, taking advantage of the Saturday leisure time

After Day 3

Another 5.52km for mental health. It’s been years since I’ve walked 3 days in a row, a little stiff in the legs but other than that I’m feeling great mentally. Exercises is so good for our minds and souls. It doesn’t need to be wind sprints up a steep hill like I did 30 years ago either, a good brisk walk will do the trick. 😀

3.71km first day

Doing this for mental health, for others and a bonus to help my waistline 😃
