Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

Monday, 13/10: walking all over brisbane

I am not quite sure how it became 5km, but a day of appointments and errands clocked up 5km yesterday! My hips are feeling it today, on Tuesday. 8 more days until my double hip replacement. I am looking forward to walking and sitting without pain!

Thursday 9th october 2025

A lovely morning walk to the University of Sydney Anthropology Centenary Celebrations, plus a wonderful days listening to stories, theoretical postulation, and engaging discussion. Then a walk down to "Kyiv", a fabulous Ukrainian Social Enterprise Restaurant, and then a late night walk home, after much glorious wining, dining and conversation. ...7km in all!

6.58am, wednesday, 8th october 2025, on a blue mountains train

Down in Sydney for 5 days, visiting family, friends and a university reunion/Anthropology Centenary, and I have managed quite a few more kilometres than I had envisaged! 5 kms Monday, 4 kms Tuesday, and now I'm on an early train from Katoomba down to Sydney, so will post today's walking later tonight. I do love the Blue Mountains, having lived here for 10 yrs, where I birthed my 3 children. And now I get to visit 2 delightful little great nephews and their parents up in the mountains! The air is so fresh and bracing. From the train, all I can see from both windows, is morning sunlight on sandstone cliffs hanging above forestedvalleys filled with smoky blue light. Sublime!

2025 One Foot Forward Fundraiser

Another year around the sun, and my 5th One Foot Forward Fundraiser.

As usual, I am walking in memory of my son Will, who took his own life on 5th July 2021.

I am also walking for the many others who struggle with mental, including myself.

But this year is different: I'm up for a double hip replacement at the end of October, so I plan to walk 40 km rather than the usual 100 km. That's 2 km a day for 20 days - my op is 22nd October.

However, I figure any distance any distance, and any funds raised will help!

So please consider donating, as I continue to raise awareness for the need for better mental health care in Australia.
