I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. Having fought for many many years with depression, anxiety and PTSD i understand the value and importance of the work that Black Dog Institute do for those in need. I value the support of friends who don't always understand what is going on, but stand by you anyway. Together, as a society and community, we can connect with and support others in similar situations. My pledge is to continue walking for those in need, for those yet to ask and for myself. My puppy Albie is my support dog and my best friend, walking with me and putting ONE FOOT FORWARD FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Back walking

So just a very slow stroll through the park with Albie, but I'm back walking after a spekkie fall on Monday.

Stay on your feet

Only managed a short walk this morning and then had 2 hours in a car, so decided to take my puppy for a walk this afternoon! Walking along nicely when my knee gave way and over I went, quite spectacularly according to the guy who raced over to help! skin off, blood!, bruises, scrapes, twisted wrist, banged up knee, bruised elbow and wrenched shoulder! nothing broken at least! so limped home and only managed 1km!

Donation thanks

A HUGE THANK YOU TO LAURA SIMMONS......... You've just received a donation of $28.81 from Laura Simmons to support you in One Foot Forward. Amazing! That means you've now raised $140.25 to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

Hard start.....

I'm struggling with the fundraising. I don't find it easy to ask others for donations, so I just keep posting to my social networks and cross my fingers. I was also struggling with getting going this morning, but thanks to a lovely supportive message from @paulrudd I got myself up and moving, walking 8km with my walking buddy this morning..

Kings park walk

Didn't walk much yesterday and wasn't really feeling it today either, as I had to drop my partner off at hospital this morning for surgery, but I promised my dog we would do a nice walk, and he has a massive memory, so off we went. We walked 7.7km through quiet and peaceful bushland, not seeing anyone but enjoying the sounds and sights of nature. I was lucky enough to see a pair of Rainbow Bee Eaters in the trees. picture not perfect but it was amazing and my second sighting in a week! made my day!

Solidarity

I have tried posting to the solidarity board but can't get it to show. Regardless of this I am back for my second year, hoping to continue the work needed to help others. Having struggled with Mental health issues for most of my adult life, my journey has often been long and hard. Luckily I have a great psychologist on my team as well as great adult children and a fantastic partner. My Dachshund -Albie has been my support dog over the last 3 1/2 yrs after a PTSD diagnosis. Albie gets me up and going on good days and is my best friend on the not so good days. This year has been tough, mum going into aged care, friends passing away, mother in law passing and a very good friend going to suicide. Things really pile on and they're the times I'm grateful for family and special friends.

Long Dog Charity Walk 7.5km

Long Dogs WA had a dog walk charity walk yesterday. Great day out. Great cause

Walking with a friend.

Today I took a friend out orchid hunting and we found some beautiful specimens,  talked about mental health and discussed the value of getting out in nature as being good for the mind,  body and soul.

Walking daily

Walking daily in the fresh air,  regardless of the weather helps me regulate my emotions.  Doing it with my gorgeous dachshund puppy brings added joy. Just watching him run, those little ears flapping,  brings a smile to my face. Count the blessings,  look for the smallest miracles in life

Walking in our local park

Albie, my mini sausage is often the additional motivation I need to get me out walking. Every day we try to walk 2-3km in the bush or park. Often i look for the beauty in nature to fill my heart and soul.

Tired after this afternoon walk with mum

After a lovely walk today in the park, getting in practice for next month, I'm feeling tired so curled up on the couch

Slow walk

Today's practice walk, short but rewarding. It took me an hour to walk 1.5km. So many beautiful wildflowers to photograph!
