This October, I’m walking in solidarity for every Australian who has been affected by mental illness and suicide.
Mental illness has been part of my life since I was 15, through chronic depression and chronic anxiety. I’ve also watched people I love struggle in their own ways — through stress, crisis, grief, and the quiet battles no one else can see.
Recently, a beautiful man I have called my uncle since I could speak took his own life. I never imagined we would lose him this way. And yet, as heartbreaking as it is, part of me understood how someone can reach a place where the pain feels bigger than everything else.
That is what makes mental illness so frightening — it does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, any family, any home, even the people you never thought you would lose.
I’m walking for my uncle. I’m walking for my family. I’m walking for the 15-year-old version of me who began fighting a battle she didn’t yet understand. And I’m walking for every person who is still here, still fighting, even when simply getting through the day takes everything they have.
One foot forward. For those we’ve lost, those we love, and those still fighting.

Another 6km down
Today was my toughest day yet mentally and physically if I didn’t walk today the silence would have been so loud in my mind I pray that anything you do for your mental health is to walk it out because I’m not okay and that’s the only thing helping me now on days I can barely cope. My Peak of the day was seeing these baby ducklings swim with there Mumma. We can do it and beat mental health. One step at a time.
