Support My Walk for Mental Health Research
Every morning I like to go for a walk. I rush to get out of my pyjamas and into my shoes and brush my teeth. I've usually done 10 thousand steps before 10 am. Walking helps me clear my mind; it helps me fight my own demons. It also helps me connect and remember a lot of the people I've loved, the people I've lost, and the people who've fought a lot of the same things I have. They felt alone. They didn't know how to talk about it, maybe they didn't have the right resources, and research has been limited. There are stigmas, and the world can be incredibly cold, cruel, and isolating.Β
I'll see my friends' smiles on a stranger in the park, and their names on posters tacked onto trees. Maybe hear their favourite song in Woolies. Even when I'm walking alone, I'm reminded that I'm never truly alone, and they've never truly left me.Β
We must always keep trying to talk about what's going on, what's happened, and what we can do to learn and grow. That's why I'm asking for your support to help Black Dog in its research, advocacy, education, and all of the great work they've done and continue to do.Β

I'm not just walking because of how much it clears my mind, and relieves me of my own fights with mental health disorders. I'm walking for those moments I get to be in nature, to be reconnected with those I've loved and lost, who are gone but I'll never forget. The souls whose battles with mental health were ones they were unable to talk about, or for those for whom the services provided were not adequate, and where the research has not yet caught up. I may be walking alone, but I am walking with a full heart, and I know we are all in fact, not alone, and are stronger together.
