Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help reduce the impact of mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Fri 17th - walked to work

Woke up early and decided to push myself to walk to work today. The 5.5km tipped me over the halfway point in my km goal for the month. So I'm a little behind where I'd like to be, but close. Some extra kms and a few more dollars raised and I'll be there!

Thurs 16th - gosford via waterview park lookout

Did a big loop of the back of Gosford going up the Waterview Park Lookout. Forgot how steep the Incline to get up there is 😅 Back down and around Racecourse Rd then down Showground Rd where I saw a mate walking back from the station so that slowed my last km walking together 😂

Wed 15th - quick touch

Had a board meeting at my rugby club, but arrived early where a few people have started playing a weekly continuous game of touch footy. Joined in for half an hour before the meeting to get some metres in and join the kids. It's open to all ages, and anyone is welcome to join us on Wednesdays at the Ourimbah Razorbacks Rugby Field from 5pm :)

Tues 14th - oz tag

Walked to Oz tag and back at Adcock Park. Way more my pace, and our team is starting to come into its own. Down at first and then edged them out in a tough win!

Mon 13th - touch footy

Walked to touch footy and back at Adcock Park. First time playing, crazy how quick it is compared to other codes. Close loss against a solid team, so high hopes for the comp when we figure out some strategy around the rules!

Sun 12th - gosford to erina & back

I've been behind on my kms (my ankle still isn't in a good place to be fair), so today I decided to find out what the distance is from home to my office.. Starting on the main road, turns out it's 5.6km... maybe I should just walk to work each day 😰 Resisted temptation to stop at Six Strings Brewery on the walk back (on a hot day it looked crazy good), but I knew I was going to see Lassu and have a few drinks tonight, so I resisted. Great walk, and racked up a bit over 11kms which I was stoked with. Longest single walk so far, and I'll keep striving for more!

Sat 11th - rugby exhibition match

I've made an active point of not counting my incidental steps/kms. As in, for this challenge I'm only counting the kms I actively make myself go and achieve. I believe this will create better habits, and ensures I get off my butt to go out and achieve them... HOWEVER, I volunteered for the supply run, field setup, running the bar, and field pack down today, and I feel like those kms should count 'cause I felt like I was run off my feet the entire time. It was a one off Women's match of Central Coast reps versus Sydney Subbies reps, and it was a great day at the Razorbacks home ground. After setup, I did not envy, but completely appreciated the ladies that were playing in 30 degree weather 😰

Fri 10th - west gosford lap

Was pretty depleted after work, cleaning and vacuuming the office, and then grocery shopping, butttt... Did a lap around near the Racecourse, saw someone get arrested in a back street, and then knew I wasn't going to hit 3km if I bee-lined home, so forced myself to go over the heavy Donnison St West hill 😰 But I made it! 😅

Thurs 9th - marine rescue

Went via Adcock Park loop to the waterfront near the Brisbane Water Marine Rescue and back. Great to take advantage of daylight savings and the extra light for a longer walk. Couldn't have done this last week!

Wed 8th - gosford waterfront

A nice short walk around the waterfront to watch the storm roll in, getting drenched in the last km as it really rolled in.

Thurs 2nd - gym session

Ankle is still feeling rough, did a gym session instead today and tried a run/walk on the treadmill instead which worked for me!

Wed 1st - rough start

Unfortunately, rolled my ankle at Austag last night. Not the start I would have liked to this 😅 Managed to limp a few km this evening!

Sun 5th - strickland state forest

Only a short one this morning with my sister's pup, Poppy. Cute as, but not ready for longer tracks yet. She did so well regardless. Keen to explore the other tracks in Strickland, its got beautiful surroundings!

Sat 4th - fair haven op-shop

Walked toward Point Claire along the water, stopping in at Fair Haven Op-Shop on the way back through! Great op shop and super cheap prices with a huge range of everything. Worth a visit!
