Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

Walking for Mental Health: For Mum, For Me, For All of Us

Mental health is something that touches so many lives, yet it can still be incredibly difficult to talk about.

For me, this is more than just a walk.

This year, I’m taking part in the Walk for Mental Health to raise money for the Black Dog Institute — and I’m doing it for someone very close to my heart: my beautiful mum.

For Mum

My mum sadly passed away as a result of her struggles with mental health.

Losing someone you love is incredibly difficult, but losing them in circumstances connected to mental health leaves behind so many emotions, questions and what-ifs.

For a long time, mental health was something I found difficult to talk about. But losing Mum has made me realise just how important it is that we do talk about it.

We need to make it okay to say, “I'm not okay.”

We need to make asking for help feel normal.

And most importantly, we need to remind people that they don't have to face their darkest moments alone.

For Me

This walk is also deeply personal because I’ve had my own struggles with mental health.

The past year, in particular, has been incredibly difficult for me. There have been times when I’ve struggled more than I ever imagined I would.

There have been days when simply getting through the day felt like an achievement.

And I know I’m not alone in that.

One of the hardest things about mental health struggles is that they aren't always visible. You can go to work, look after your family, laugh with your friends and carry on with everyday life while quietly fighting a battle that nobody else knows about.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is admit that you're struggling.

Sometimes getting out of bed is a victory.

Sometimes reaching out and saying, “I need help,” is one of the bravest things you can do.

Walking Together

I’m incredibly grateful that Capital Air Group is joining me as a team for this walk.

Having my work family get behind something that is so personal and meaningful to me means more than I can put into words.

Together, Team Capital Air Group will be walking not only to raise money, but to raise awareness and help start conversations about mental health.

It means a lot to know that I won't be taking these steps alone.

We'll be walking together for the people we have lost, for the people who are struggling right now, and for everyone who has ever felt like they were fighting a battle by themselves.

Why the Black Dog Institute?

The Black Dog Institute does incredibly important work in mental health research, prevention and treatment.

By raising money, we're helping support work that can improve our understanding of mental illness and ultimately help people before they reach a crisis point.

Mental health deserves the same attention, compassion and investment as physical health.

Because mental health can affect anyone.

It doesn't matter how successful you are, how strong you look, how busy your life is or how much you have to be grateful for.

Sometimes, people are hurting where nobody can see it.

Every Step Counts

I’m hoping to raise as much as I can for this incredible cause.

If you’re able to donate, even $5 or $10, it would mean so much to me and would help support the Black Dog Institute's work.

But donating isn't the only way you can help.

Share the message.

Check in on someone.

Ask someone how they're really doing.

Listen without judgement.

And if you're struggling yourself, please know that reaching out for help isn't weakness.

You matter.

Your life matters.

And you don't have to have everything figured out before you ask someone to walk beside you.

For Mum. For Me. For All of Us.

Every step I take during this walk will carry a little bit of Mum with me.

I'll be walking for her.

I'll be walking for myself.

I'll be walking for the people who are struggling silently.

I'll be walking for the families left behind.

And I'll be walking with hope that we can create a world where talking about mental health isn't uncomfortable or embarrassing — it's simply part of looking after ourselves and each other.

For Mum. For me. For our team. For all of us.
Every dollar, every share and every conversation helps.
Let's keep talking. Let's keep walking. And let's make sure nobody feels like they have to walk through the darkness alone. 💙
