Support My Walk for Mental Health Research
Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?
This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.
I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.
It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.
Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.
My Updates
You are not alone
Mental health isn’t something that happens to other families. It’s something my family lives with every day.
My whole family has struggled with mental health in different ways, and watching my son struggle has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced as a parent. There’s a particular kind of pain that comes from seeing your child hurting and knowing you would do absolutely anything to take that pain away — but you can’t, especially when your struggling as well.
We’ve had moments where I desperately needed help. Moments where I reached out because I knew we couldn’t keep carrying everything on our own.
And yet, when we needed support the most, there simply wasn’t enough available.
It’s incredibly difficult to ask for help and then find yourself facing waiting lists, unavailable services, or nowhere to turn. You’re already exhausted, already worried, already trying to hold your family together — and then you have to fight just to find someone who can help.
As a parent, you can feel so helpless. You question whether you’re doing enough, whether you’re missing something, whether you should have noticed things sooner. You keep going because your family needs you, even when you’re struggling yourself.
We shouldn’t have to wait until someone is at breaking point before meaningful support becomes available.
Our family doesn’t need judgement. We don’t need people telling us to simply “reach out” when we’ve already been reaching out. We need accessible, ongoing support when we actually need it.
Mental health struggles don’t disappear because services are unavailable. Families don’t stop struggling because there is nowhere to go.
We are still here. We are still trying. We are still supporting each other, one day at a time.
And I’m sharing this because I know there are other families quietly going through the same thing — feeling exhausted, scared, helpless and alone.
You are not alone. ❤️
We need to do better for families like ours. We need a system where asking for help actually leads to help.
