Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Day 14

F.T.W

No Data Today.

Day 13

Morning Everyone.
It’s 3.30am.
I slept really well.
But I woke up in a cold sweat.
I’m still don’t wanna talk to anyone at the moment.
I just wanna be left alone.

I’m in a lot of pain this morning.
So, I won’t be doing much today.
Maybe some chores.
I’ll have my phone in my pocket with my Headphones on.
So, we’ll see what the Data says at the end of the day.

A quick message to a good friend.
About what you said in Aesop’s fable.
I am neither the Sun nor the Wind.
I am obviously the traveller with the cloak.
Being tormented by the weather.

And to the people criticising me for what I’m doing with these charity events.
Everyone’s entitled to have their own opinion.
I just don’t give a fuck about yours!!!
What have you ever done?!!
I know who my friends are.

No Data Today.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
See Ya All Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Day 12

This was sent to me from a friend recently. It seems appropriate at the moment.

Day 12

Morning Everyone.
It’s 2am.
I need a coffee first.

I’m slowly getting my Head back into a better place.
But I’m still not talking to anyone at the moment, in person or online.
Except for the occasional G’day.

And there are some nosey people that
have found their way to this page now, and are snooping around uninvited.
They’re looking to get their nose broken one day soon.
I’m just waiting for the right time.

I’ll add today’s Data at the end of the day.
I reckon it’s gonna be a slow day though.
My feet are hurting more than usual.
We’ll see?

I walked/ran 11.6 kms.
And 17,850 steps.
That’s it for today.

I Hope You’ve Had A Great Day.
See Ya All Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Centennial Park Cemetery

One foot in the Grave?? Nah, not just yet. But I am gonna Burn in Hell.

Day 11

It felt like a lot more!!!

Day 11

Morning Everyone.

I walked 18 kms.
And 27,500 painful steps.
I was cold and wet from the Wind, Rain and Sweat.
But I’ve been through worse.
Bring It On!!!

I used to eat days like these BEFORE
breakfast!!!

I also picked up litter along the way.
But only through my streets, around the Oval, and along the Cemetery.
(I’ve been trying to take a decent photo of the statue above at night. I will at some point.)

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
See Ya All Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)
This Too Shall Pass!!

Every scar has a story.
Every wrinkle, a regret.
Every grey hair was a worry.
Every tear still feels wet.
                                          Me

Day 10

Morning Everyone.
12.30am.
And I’ve woken up in a cold sweat again.
I’m still not in a great mood.
I rolled my ankle running a couple of days ago, and it has caught up with me today.
And my neuroma’s angry at me again.
And I can feel a Headache brewing.
And on top of all that,
My Depression’s grabbed hold of me again and it won’t let go.

And I’ve still got a bit of heartache that’s
been with me the past few days.
But that’s my own fault for wearing my heart on my sleeve.

The odds are stacked against me today.

I have another medical appointment later today, which is too late to cancel.
So, I’m just gonna have to push forward.

I’m not in the mood for people today.
Especially Crackheads that ask for money without saying “Please”.
So, it’s best people just
Stay The Fuck Outta My Way Today!!!

There’s only 65 kms to go until I reach my 150kms target.
So, I’m just gonna push through the pain
and get it finished by next week.
I’m done with all this!!!

I did 9.2 kms.
14,500 painful steps.

I Hope You All Have A Great Day.
See Ya All Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Can anyone else see the humour in this?
This is another angle of the Memorial Site where I stop for a break on my Panorama trail.

Day 9

It’s just gone 10.30pm.
I woke up in a cold sweat as expected.
I can’t get back to sleep.
My mood’s not great.
I’m gonna have a coffee and put my headphones on.

I’ll start the day by listening to one of my favourite songs.
(It best describes my mood today.)
It’s also appropriate for this charity.
It’s called Black Dog by an Aussie band called Dead Kelly.
You can find it on YouTube.
(Watch out for the microphone.)
Buckle up, it’ll be a bumpy ride.

I see my other Anonymous friend has jumped on board again.
You naughty girl.
I Sincerely Thank You!!
I’ve truly valued our friendship throughout the year.
More than words can say.
And the abundance of music too.
I wish you well.
And I hope you keep on training.
Especially the walks.
You’ve been very special to me.
And I’m really gonna miss you. :(
Cheers. :)

I’ve got a bit of rage in me today.
It’s just gone Midnight.
So, I’m gonna Head out for a night walk.
And try and get my Head straight.

It’s 3am.
I’m back.
I walked my Panorama trail.
I did 12.3 kms.
And 14,780 steps.
I saw litter every step of the way and didn’t pick up any of it.
Why should I bother???

To Hell with the world today.
Let it Burn!!!

I Hope You All Have A Great Day.
See Ya Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Day 8

Morning Everyone.
It’s 2am.
I slept well for nearly 5 hours.
No cold sweats this morning.
But I need a coffee first.

I see my feathery friend Veronica has jumped on board again.
You naughty girl.
Veronica has sponsored me on all of these events so far.
Like all of us here, She loves nature.
And animals, and especially dogs.
She also knows that I’m as loyal as a Labrador.
I’ll always be the knife in your hand.
Cheers. :)

I’m expecting a parcel to be delivered sometime today, so I don’t know how much walking I’ll get done.
We’ll see?
I think I should give my foot a rest today.

It looks like I’ll be spending my day deleting playlists.

Nothing’s gonna bring me down today.
So, I’m Heading out.

I ran/walked 5.5 kms.
8,720 steps in an hour.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
That’s it from me today!!!

Cheers. :)

Happy Birthday Mum

Happy Birthday Mum. I had a mini lemon meringue pie. It was nowhere near as good as yours.

Day 7

Morning Everyone.
It’s 2.40am.
No cold sweats this morning.
And I’m in a good mood.

Firstly.
Happy Birthday Mum.
I still miss You everyday.
And I Love You Very Much.
I hope you have a Great Day.
Cheers. :)

I have an appointment later this morning, so I’m not sure how much walking I’ll get done today.
I’ll try and do some laps of the Oval later.
To get some steps done.
We’ll see?

It’s 1.30pm.
I’m back.
And I’m Heading to the Oval now to do some laps.
I’m gonna push for 10 kms today.
We’ll see how we go?

Ok. It’s 4pm.
And I was moving fast.
I did 12.4 kms.
And 19,900 steps.
I kinda feel like going back out just to do another 100 steps.
But I’m sweaty and my feet are hurting.

I just got off the phone to my Mum.
And I’m in a Very Happy mood.
Happy Birthday Mum.
I Love You!!
Cheers.  :)

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
See Ya All Again Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

This is the Oval where I train. The hills in the back ground are where I go, to get lost hiking.

Day 6

Morning Everyone.
It’s 3am.
And I woke up in a sweat again.
I’m ok.
But, I need a coffee first. :)

I’ve got no plans yet for today.
We’ll have to wait and see what mischief
I can get into?  :)

I see Angela has jumped on board again.
Angie is a constant support for me.
And is currently helping me to get my passport renewed.
So I can get to Kokoda.

For a long time, I thought I was unable to get it renewed because of an old criminal charge.
But it turns out that the statute of limitations has worked in my favour.
I’m a step closer.
Cheers. :)

It’s 5.30am.
And I’m Heading out the door to get some steps done.

Ok. It’s 8.30am.
I’m back.
I went and did laps at the Oval.
I did a bit of running too.
I picked up a lot of litter again.
Empty wine bottles, and pizza boxes, and all kinds of crap people leave behind over night.
It makes me Bloody Angry!!!

My phone say’s I did 8.7 kms.
And 13,750 steps so far.
I’ll add the Data at the end of the day.

My foot’s giving me a hard time today.
So, I reckon I might spend the day reading, and give it a rest.

It’s 5pm.
I fell asleep reading again.
My foot’s still sore.
So, that’s it for today.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
And I’ll See Ya All Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Vinko Design

You can also see some more of Vinko’s Artwork on my previous Stride4stroke webpage or follow him on Instagram. Which I highly recommend you do.

Vinko Design

And another Vinko.

Vinko Design

This is some more of Vinko’s Artwork at my local train station.

Centennial Park

This is the memorial site on my Panorama trail. I used to live up this way a long time ago.

Day 5

Morning Everyone.
It’s 2am. (Daylight Saving Time)
I had a deep sleep, but woke up in a cold sweat again.
I need a coffee. :)

It’s 4.15am.
And I can feel a storm’s brewing.
So, I’m Heading out now for a walk.
I’m gonna do my Centennial Park trail.
The same as I did last month during the Stride4stroke event.
We’ll see what my phone Data says when I get back.

It’s 6.30am.
I’m back.
My friend Katrina sent me some new music to listen to along the way.
You were in my ears the whole way this morning. (Playlist III)
Cheers. :)

I stopped along the way to take some photos at the Memorial Site above.
And to annoy my mate Bazz.
With a 5am wake up call, but I think he was already awake.
Bazz and Linda have been friends for decades.
And they sponsored me on the 25 km
‘Spoke to a Bloke’ event I did earlier this year.
And I know they’ll continue to support me all the way to Kokoda.
Cheers. :)

On the way back.
I took some more photos of Vinko’s Artwork at my local train station.
He’s got some incredible talent.
And he’s also a Tattooist.
I can’t wait to get my new tattoo started soon.
Cheers. :)
(See photos above)

My phone say’s I’ve done 10 kms.
And 12,900 steps.
And I was moving fast at about 6 kms per hour.

It’s 6.30pm.
My feet are still sore, so I won’t be doing
any more walking today.
My phone Data say’s
I’ve walked 13.4 kms.
And 18,300 steps.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
See Ya All Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Day 4

Morning Everyone.
It’s 4.30am.
And I slept really well again.
No cold sweats,
And I’m already in a good mood.

I see Leesa has jumped on board.
You’re very kind. Thank You. :)
I’m not quite sure where I know you from yet?
But, You’ve made it to the top of my list of favourite people today.
Cheers. :)

I don’t have any plans yet for today.
I think I’ll probably go and do laps of the Oval.

I’ve decided I’m gonna walk to Westfield.
It’ll be about a 10 km round trip.

Ok. I’m back.
I went to Bunning’s for the sausage sizzle.
They always seem to taste better on a Saturday.
I had two. :)

My phone say’s I’ve only done 9.4 kms and 15,285 steps so far.
I picked up a lot of litter along the way,
but I can’t get it all.
My feet are sore.
So, I’m gonna have a rest for a while and play video games.

That’s it for today.
I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
And I’ll See You All Again Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

I can’t believe people still walk their dogs through the water. And this was the only warning sign I saw along the way.

Algal Bloom Casualties

These are dead fish caused by the Algal Bloom in Glenelg. The seagulls were eating the dead fish, but there weren’t as many seagulls as usual, which is scary!!

Algal Bloom

The Algal Bloom has made its way to Brighton and Glenelg now.

Day 3

Morning Everyone.
It’s 4am.
And I had a deep sleep for a change.
I’m in a good mood.

Today I think we might do the
Seacliff to Glenelg walk again, along the coast.
The same as the one I did during last month for The Stroke Foundation.
Stride4stroke.

I have some chores to do first.
We’ll see??

I see my not so Anonymous Friend Donna has jumped on board again.
You naughty girl.
This is a cause that’s very close to both
of us.
So, you’re gonna be in my thoughts every step of the way today.
Thank you for your kind words.
And Thank you for your constant support.
I’m lucky to have you in my corner.
Much Love and Respect.
Cheers. :)

And I see my great mate Dave has jumped on board too.
Thanks for your support Mate.
You make the world a happier place.
And I’m lucky to have you in my corner.
I guess you’ll have to be in my thoughts today too.
Damn You!!  Hahaha
Cheers. :)

Ok. It’s 8am.
I’ve got new blister patches on.
And I’m Heading out now.
We’ll see what my phone Data says at the end of the day.

I made it from Seacliff to Glenelg in just over an hour.
Stopping to take some photos on the way.
Which is still pretty quick, but I’ve done it quicker than that before.

I saw a Research team taking water samples of the Algal Bloom.
It’s reached its way to Glenelg now.
You can taste it in the air.
Just breathing in the air dried my throat
and made my mouth a little bit numb.
Caused a cough too.
I won’t be going back there for a while.
(See photos above)

I left Glenelg and went into town for lunch at The Metropolitan Hotel.
And had the Roast of the day.
(Which was Pork, if you’re wondering.)

At the end of the day my phone say’s
I did 10.4 kms.
And 16,245 steps.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
See Ya All Again Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Day 2

Morning Everyone.
It’s 1am.
And I’ve slept ok.
I didn’t wake in a cold sweat this morning.
And I’m in a good mood.

I need a coffee before I do anything. :)

So far, I don’t have any plans for today.
It’s wet and windy outside.
And there’s rain forecast for today.
Perfect weather for a walk really. Haha.

It’s 8.30am.
I’m Heading out now to do some laps
Of the Oval.

Ok. It’s 11.30am.
I’m back.
I lost count of how many laps I did.
I also picked up a lot of litter as I walked around.
My phone say’s I’ve done 11.3 kms.
and 14,500 steps.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
And I’ll See Ya All Again Tomorrow.
Cheers. :)

Day 1

Morning Everyone.
It’s 2am.
And as usual, I’ve woken up in a cold sweat.

This Event is a bit different to the last one.
This one’s only about the amount of walking I get done.
So, I won’t be adding any time spent
exercising or stretching, or any of the cardio training that I do.
I do 30 mins of that every morning anyway.

I’ve got some long walks planned during the next month, that will easily help reach my 100kms target.
We’ll see.
I’ll probably increase it towards the end.

This is also another cause that is close to home for me.
As I have battled Depression most of my life.
I have been diagnosed with P.T.S.D and
Severe Depression for many years now.
And of course, that includes everything else that comes with it.
Doing Charity Events like these, is one of the ways that I cope with it.
They give me purpose and take my mind off of Suicidal Ideation.

The last Charity Event I did was for
The Stroke Foundation.
Stride4stroke.
I walked over 180kms last month.
And over 264,000 steps.
So, I’m keen to see how long it takes me to do a 100kms.

I haven’t told many people about this one yet.
So, I’m not expecting to raise as much as last time.

The fastest way to lose friends is by asking for money. Hahaha.

And I already know that My friends support me anyway.
But we’ll see?
Maybe someone will jump on board.

It’s 3pm.
And I’ve had a slack Day 1.
I cooked another casserole that’ll last me until the weekend.
And I got some laundry done as well.
I’ve had my phone in my pocket all day with my headphones on.
And going by the phone Data.
I’ve walked 1.7 kms.
And 2,900 steps.

I’ll make up for it tomorrow.

I Hope You’ve All Had A Great Day.
Cheers. :)
