I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. My walking buddies and I, over in the team Super Awesome Sparkly People, have been doing this month long walkathon for 2 years now. This will be our 3rd year on the One Foot Forward program and each year so far, we have all found it to be an amazing source of encouragement, support and inspiration. We, each of us, have our own battles to fight, demons to face and daily struggles to contend with. If there is even the smallest chance that our walk can help create that feeling of connection, of safety and understanding that we get from our team and send the same hope to others who are struggling... well then, there is more than enough reason to get up and keep walking.

Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

An early arrival, a big change and a new life

Well, I had a baby. My beautiful, precious son Theodore arrived 2 weeks early, surprising all of us and knocking our remaining "pre-baby" plans askew. Hours of labour ending in an emergency caesarian has meant a few things for my houshold. 1. I have not been walking further than the bed to the bathroom since the birth. 2. Sleep is a precious commodity, to be taken whenever possible - even in the middle of a perfect walking day. 3. Every activity is now assessed through the lens of "how will this effect the baby?, can the baby be safely included?, how will I accomplish this one handed/with the baby?" Even when I feel reasonably energetic, that energy is being used to heal my belly wound and care for my son, so my walking goal this year has been halved... and will probably be dropped again, to avoid overcommiting and over doing the thing to the detriment of my health. Or my baby's health. So it's going to be a very quiet, low key October on the walking front. Too busy being part of a new parent duo for much else, for now!!
