Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

About

40km may not seem like much to some but for me it's a huge effort. I have lupus, degenerative discs, arthritis in various spots and si joint dysfunction, widespread pain and inflammation as well as goodness knows what, diagnosed major depression and autism + adhd innatentive, GAD, and social phobia. But I'm doing so much better now days. My hubby has his own mental health and physical issues, and our daughter is dx autistic and hypermobile spectrum disorder possibly hEDS. So it's a huge effort for her and I to be walking each day (hubby and the dog just love walking regardless). We walk the boundary of our property, which is 1.4km and half of it is up steep hills. I love a glass or 3 of g&t, so I've also chosen to go sober for this month, including my birthday on the 27th! My recent bloods and scans showed an enlarged liver and I'm either pre diabetic again (in remission last year) or now full blown diabetic. I am booked for an oral gtt in a few weeks. Fun times 🤦‍♀️ I'm a huge advocate for talking about mental health to help break the stigma, and I'm proud to be doing this and hopefully it'll kick me up the butt to continue after the month is over.
