My challenge is dedicated to the memory of my daughter, Brontë Elouise Haskins

A tribute for My beautiful daughter, Brontë Elouise Haskins.

I’m cycling in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. I am cycling in memory of my beautiful daughter, Brontë, who died in 2020, following a reported suicide attempt. After 3 days in ICU, Brontë's life support was turned off. The worst pain I've ever experienced, and the pain persists. However, I am also cycling for others 'gone too soon', and those who currently experience ill mental health. I am one of those people, and the black dog has followed me around at various times of my life. So, let's go, let's get resources to support some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Warming up has led to warming down!

I was so super proud of myself by getting my fat arse back in the saddle, so to speak ie getting a few bike rides under my belt to be ready for October.
So, yesterday, three of us embarked on a bike ride, with me at the (very slow) helm.
About 15 minutes into the bike ride, I stacked my bike, and being the 'precious' human being I am, ended up with what appears to be the right handle bar having a clash with one of my ribs (just below by right breast), and now I also have a very sore upper arm.
Pretty weird, given I fell off on my left side. Referred pain?
Anyway, after I have recovered, I will be back in the saddle and pedaling again.
I decided to utilise this post as a 'pity post', in hope of more donations.
I'm waiting...................................
Cheers, Janine.

Warming up!

So, I start on my 88km journey of bike riding in a couple of weeks.
Currently, we have a friend staying with us, who was my bike buddy when she lived in Canberra.
We've gone on two rides thus far - one around Lake Ginninderra (with lunch and a drink inbetween), and then to the Arboretum.
So, I'm getting in the groove to get off my my fat arse and pedal in October.
Thank you to the peeps who have donated to me thus far; still look for more, no donation is too small!
We continue to lose 9 lives a week to suicide, which is more than double of the people we lose in road accidents.
We need this to stop, and have resources to prevent suicides.
I am a realist, and I believe that not every suicide can be prevented, however, there are so many lives than can be saved.
In unity, Janine.
