Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

Hanging with the cool kids

I saw this little diamond enjoying coffee with her 2 owners. As they made such a stylish trio I had to walk past a couple of times, summoning up the courage to approach. But luckily even though they were, in the words of Derek Zoolander, “Really, really, really ridiculously good-looking” they were also lovely, and when I told them what I was doing were happy to have Trish launch her modelling career. Alas, my new dog best friend soon sussed that she was way out of my league and couldn’t wait to get back to the fashion crowd. Oh well, I still love you Trish, and always will. So… call me? Trish?…Trish?…Please?…

And then there was Poppy

Fittingly beside a flower stall, I spotted this sweet little blossom on my lunchtime walk. Her owners were proud to tell me all about Poppy: she is a senior dog and has been their support and best friend for many years. She has been at their side through thick and thin (some of it very thin) and her loyalty has been unflinching. They consider it an honor to chauffer her in her special chariot wherever they go. Beautiful Poppy, thank you for the kiss and for letting me stroke your ears. You are such a precious flower I even put up with a close up of my face because it meant I could be close to you. PS I should stress that Ms P is hale and hearty and going very strong!

Full of beans!

Here’s a dog who makes any day brighter, just by seeing her. Beans you are such a lovely girl and you could turn the world on with your smile!

So many dogs, so little time.

Mr Bob has a bit of a sore hip, but being a pug about town, he and his owner never miss a daily walk. They say it’s an essential, good for the hip and good for the head. And so say all of us! Especially after a rather sub-standard Tuesday.

Daily dogs

Because animal encounters are so good for the soul and our mental health,  I am going to honour all the new canine friends I make on my daily walks. I spot a friendly looking dog and owner, introduce myself explain what I’m doing and ask if they’d mind taking a photo of me with their dog using my phone. Here are today’s new friends: Penny (the platinum blonde) and further on, Megsy who was a great conversationalist.

Meet my neighbour

This camera shy bloke is lives next door.He’s a bit of a V.I.P as he’s learning to be an assistance dog, going to school with my neighbour’s son, helping him with his day. But it’s school holidays so Stanley is going to take off his red uniform and join me on my walk before it rains again. PS. When he turns around, Stanley is a major spunk and I’m a bit in love with him.

First day.

First walk to work. 5km from my front door to the city was the plan. Despite my chronic lack of fitness, I made it! Didn’t get lost, break a leg or arrive late. However word to the wise: brisk walking while wearing a rubber raincoat, is not to be recommended. stinkypoo is the phrase that springs to mind.
