The statistics hit home.
Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience symptoms of mental illness each year? 75% of common mental health problems emerge before the age of 25. 50% of people living with mental illness will not seek professional help.
These are the reasons I am passionate about mental health advocacy, and starting real and meaningful conversations. Over the last few years, I have become more open talking about my own struggles, primarily with bipolar disorder and the grief of losing a loved one to suicide. These are important truths for too many of us, and the world needs safe spaces to talk.
Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them.
I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most. Black Dog do amazing work, and I am proud to have supported them through One Foot Forward for what will now be 6 years running.
It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.
Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.
I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone.
