Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

My reason

Sadly, 1 in 5 people experience mental illness each year.
I’m one of those people.
For the past 15 years, I’ve lived with mental illness, and this year has been one of the hardest of my life. In January, I survived a suicide attempt, something I never imagined I would have to say out loud. But I’m here, and I want to use my experience to help break the stigma around mental health and suicide.
We have no idea what someone else is carrying. Behind a smile, a conversation, or someone simply saying “I’m fine” can be a struggle we know nothing about. That’s why I can’t stress enough how important it is to treat people with kindness, compassion and understanding.
My mental health is part of what has shaped me into the person I am today, but I am not my mental illness. I am me.
I also know firsthand how incredibly difficult the mental health system can be to navigate. I’ve faced challenges at every turn trying to access the support I needed. I would not be here today without the incredible love and support of my family and friends who stood beside me when I needed them most.
Surviving a suicide attempt has changed the way I see mental health, recovery and the importance of reaching out. If sharing my story means even one person feels less alone, or reminds someone that their life is worth fighting for, then it’s worth sharing.
This month I’m walking 40km in One Foot Forward to support Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.
I’m raising funds for Black Dog Institute to help put groundbreaking mental health treatment, education and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.
