Renee

I’m walking, dancing, swimming, doing what ever it takes to be the change i want to see in the world and support others who are trying and suffering alongside me - you're not alone. I live on a roller-coaster of self doubt and a lack of confidence most days and when the ride goes down its fast and hard. Coming up seems like it will never happen and you want off the ride. I GET IT im in it and have been for decades. Stay on the ride, be in control of the gears, you decide the pace from your seat. Walk with me, swim with me or dance. It doesn't have to go fast every day, mini moments are all it takes, let's experiment together and MOVE those feelings and thoughts a little so they dont get too comfy x love love love

Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

I hit a hurdle

Today i hit a mental hurdle and couldn't find my jam to do much at all. I walked with my kids through nature to try beat it, it helped and I laid in the sun to get some vitamin D as I know that always helps. seeing my boys laugh and smile and be silly today brought me to my feet and made me feel better. I couldnt gym I couldnt run or bike or swim so i let the kids dictate the day and we still got a few kms in. I'm surprised how much you get in even if you think it's been nothing at all. To everyone having a bad day just pop outside if you can, even if it is up the driveway a few times to catch the rays and hear a bird. My anxiety was still present most of the day, she hung like a cloud desperate to burst on my forehead but never did. Being in nature really helped x 🧡

Byron hinterland kms with kids

School holidays create challenges when solo with your children, I can't up & go for a run and leave my toddlers at home. BUT what I can do is weave my kms into the day without them noticing in clever ways. PART 1: we danced to 25 minutes of Michael jackson, beyonce and parallel Williams videos and they learnt some new dance moves while my heart rate raised the roof. I swear 25 minutes on the D-floor in my hey day was not as hard but maybe that's another reason I was fitter - BY GOSH dancing full throttle hearing "again again again" from 7 and 4 year old boys is as motivating as my girlfriends "whoop whoop" screaming with me while we break dance and bring out the moonwalk. VERDICT = a whole gotta fun and sweat and I smiled literally the whole time so this is a winner. PART 2 : a few laps of Mullumbimby market and I made sure I parked as far away as I could, not even in the car park to make sure we walked all the way in and out. VERDICT = laid back, good vibes, moving slow. PART 3 : The crystal castle maze 3 times, the treasure hunt twice, up and down the bamboo forest steps and searching for anything i could think of to get the most our of it. VERDICT = Im using the word epic because i combined two of my loves - spiritual and physical healing and it was the winner of the day. I usually go slow through the magical grounds of the Crystal Castle, but I let my boys lead the pace and followed because they move fast and it forced me to just 'LET IT BE' allow the movement to happen at another pace and I was rewarded with moments to stop, hear the wind int he bamboo forest amd actually reflected on what I am working towards with this challenge. Im 👀 and experimenting instead of going HARD & FAST, im not setting a km each day im setting time outside and preparing myself to have no clock on each day. its working i loved it and my Brian feels r ee ally good for this one. less anxiety today and came home with a few crystals x

Day 1 stepping in all the ways

One, two step, kick ball change, glitter in my hair and a teased fringe that resembled the opera house - that's how i remember gathering joy while exercising in my youth. I danced across the loungeroom to my mixed tapes made from weekend radio requests. I was front and centre at every talent quest, I never one a trophy & I didn't care, I honestly have no memory of being disappointed, I just loved to move in the way the music told me to. As I got older the house party was my happy place, then the nightclub dance floor and the festival field became my stage, much to the amusement of my friends who I laughed and busted moves with. Fast forward 20 years, add PTSD from a few unhealthy work situations, some toxic relationships, throw in post Natal Depression for flavour and mix anxiety, depression and a few ingredients im still not sure about but working on getting diagnosed. Hi, Im Renee, im a mum in my 40s who has beed searching for joy in all corners of the globe for 3 decades. I've tried everything from therapy to drugs, lived in an ashram, attempted a triathlon, taught art therapy, became a yoga amd meditation teacher and taken up running more recently. One foot forward for me is about not having a big bloody goal to work towards, as the come down from them is astronomical for me. I soar high and crash deep and its taken me 4 decades to figure this out. I've joined one foot forward to do one step at a time, quite literally stepping, dancing, swimming, walking, riding a bike or what ever it is that takes me out of my dark thoughts and into a lighter place. my goal each day is to move, I'm doing it solo and sometimes along with my kids like today we rode 3.5km together and it felt really frigging good. I'm on the Northern Rivers of NSW moving through the ocean, bike lanes and bush tracks and id love some company. Reach out of you are too and let's go one step at a time x
