Support My Walk for Mental Health Research

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year?

This October, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

I'm walking to raise funds for Black Dog Institute to put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my walk.

Together, we can create better mental health for all Australians.

My Updates

Why?

What difference is one stranger going to make? Why bother when other people across the globe are contributing anyways? I may agree with the foundation and support the cause but why would I bother walking.. or donating… when other people are already banding together to do so? One completely unknown stranger commiting to this wont make any difference right? Other people are more invested and motivated to support the cause, more people that might actually be financially stable enough to contribute or are physically healthier and more motivated to walk the walk so why bother when everything is working out because other people are contributing anyways? Because those who are contributing, didnt stop to think about the whys. Everyone who is helping support the cause are involved because they dont care if they dont make a difference, we dont care if no one recognises our good deeds, we dont need people to acknowledge us or appreciate us for doing soemthing good for the world, because we are supporting a cause that we understand personally in our own lives. This is a fight in which everyone who is fighting right now, has been fighting in silence on their own their whole lives, or watching people they care about struggle to hold their own. Its hard to fight on your own, and you might be familiar with the pain of that yourself, or have seen first hand the damage that has occured in other people. Which is why this foundation exists, to fight together, which makes this more than just a fight, it makes it a war. A war now with an army, an army of people who are banded together because they all understand eachother and understand that they arent the only ones fighting anymore. They know they arent alone, They may be walking the walk alone right now, or donating out of their own pockets to fight the fight for themselves or have their own personal reasons for doing so, But in the bigger picture they are solo soldiers apart of the bigger army , fighting the same war in in different places. So to answer all the whys, one singular stranger makes a difference because its another soldier tapping on your shoulder to say that theyre here to help fight, to show that there are more soldiers out there and the army is bigger than you might think, your arent alone anymore and the bigger the army grows, the less scary the problem becomes, the more awarness we spread about our enemy and the more money we raise, is going to fund the tools to create stronger weapons, the funding to discover more knowledge and understanding about our enemy in which over time can lead to a way to end the war altogether. I will walk this walk alone because I know that other soldiers are also fighting alone, regardless of success or recognition, regardless of if i reach my goal, because im fighting a battle that i have been my whole entire life, and I know other people are too. I know now that im not alone, and I wouldnt wish it uppon anyone to feel that they are. I dont care if i dont make a difference in the world, because im standing up to an enemy i share with these soldiers, and to our army, that makes us stronger, and that is the difference i can make. Supporting this foundation is saying that you arent alone. Whether this is you reaching out your own hand to our soldiers, or you reaching out to accept the hands reaching for you. Mental health is a battle no one should fight alone, this being the reason this army was created. Im proud to fight this battle even as an extra on the field.. because i was struggling to fight it myself, untill I myself, was tapped on the shoulder by other soldiers. Now im reaching out my hand to those who have felt the same to prove that you arent alone either. Im walking this walk to prove to myself that im in control, to prove to myself how strong i can be, and everyone else walking is doing the same. So to ask one more why, even if other people can afford to donate, or have the athletic ability to walk, and so many people across the globe are already contributing, Why would i still sit down and just watch everyone else fight the same battle I am myself? Why keep fighting alone when i dont have to? Why would i ignore these people suffering the same as I am, when we share the pain? Why would I watch everyone fight the same battle from the sidelines? Its still my own fight in the end, even if we are all battling the same thing, it doesnt make it any less my own fight. Thats why I am walking, for myself. If you are also fighting this battle then fight along side, its still for yourself, its just easier when your not the only one fighting.
