Paul Rudd takes part in One Foot Forward every year:

"I went through a bad patch with my mental health when I hurt my back and I needed a lot of time off to recover. I had limited mobility, so I started to lose contact with the outside world. Then I lost interest in doing anything at all. My mind just clouded all positive thoughts.

It took me two years to rebuild myself. So when I heard about One Foot Forward I decided to take part. I wanted to connect with other people who had been through something similar.

“The community is a big, supportive family.”

To anyone thinking about taking part in One Foot Forward, I say ‘Do it!’. You get to enjoy the fresh air and get your blood moving. It’s also a fun community thing. Above all, it helps raise funds and awareness that help is out there if you need support for your mental health.”

Jus A tribute for For those I have lost and for myself

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. I am one of these Australians. I have been in such low and dark spots, he'll I still do experience this. Mental illness doesn't discriminate.

Haley Jane

I remember receiving my mental health diagnosis in 2003 and it feeling like the end of the world. I didn’t really take responsibility for myself or diagnosis until 2010. Lots of self work, therapy and self love later, I’m living my best life! I have been discriminated against and treated poorly by both individuals and medical professionals who should know better. I’m constantly advocating for myself in any situation where it’s made known that I have a diagnosis or take medication for said diagnosis. I’m walking this walk to raise a conversation around mental health, that when it is well managed, it isn’t the big scary monster you see when people are at their absolute worst. A combination of therapy and the right medication can really make a difference in the stability of someone with mental illness. But all of that is useless without the safety net of a fabulous support network. People who understand, or at least try to. It isn’t an easy road for those with mental health, but education, love and understanding will get you through every time xxx I hope for The Black Dog Institute to drive change around the conversation about mental health.

I’m walking in solidarity this October to support people struggling with mental health everyday. You are not alone ❤️

Margaret Wylie A tribute for Mal Wylie

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. My brother Mal took his own life a couple of years ago. I didn't know he wasn't coping. If you are distressed, please talk with someone now. We are a community together. We don't need to walk alone.

Maite

I’m walking in solidarity this October for Australians affected by mental illness and suicide. You are not alone. I am committed to walk 200km to support mental health research. This may not sound like a very ambitious challenge to some of you, but this is one my current health can aim for at the moment. Training towards this goal has already started. So this year I am walking for and with survivors of physical and psychological abuse, with those that fight it everyday, for today and tomorrow’s new victims and in memory of those whose fight has ended. As the proverb says ‘ Shared joy is a double joy. Shared sorrow is half a sorrow’ As I walk for you, walk with me As I know you are there, know you can reach out to me Let’s listen to each other or walk in silence together Step after step we move forward, stronger for knowing what it takes to make that first baby step, to speak up, to pick ourself up and to stand up We are here for each other With Love Maïté
